North Wind Concerts | Pop-Up Pot Pourri
October 25, 2024 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
PWYC
Join us for POP-UP POT-POURRI – an eclectic, in-the-round evening of music including late sixteenth-century works by William Byrd from Lady Nevell’s Book and other sources, Canadian recorder quartets from the mid-twentieth century by Jean Papineau-Couture and George Fiala, hurdy gurdy solos by Ligeti and Matthias Loibner, improvisations on haiku, and more.
Gracing the floorboards to perform will be Ben Grossman, vielle à roue/hurdy gurdy; Alison Melville, flutes; Louise Hung, virginal; and recorder players Romina Abadi, Colin Savage and Yasuchika Suzuki – and YOU, members of the audience, who will select and read out the haiku! In addition, some conversation between musicians and audience members will get our synapses firing. It’s a 1590s/1950s/haiku ‘happening!’
Suggested donation: $20
