“25 Harps, One Sound”: A Global Celebration of Music

World-Premiere: ‘Step into the Light’ by Gergö Teleki”

Get ready to witness history in the making at the Toronto International Harp Festival! This year, we’re setting an ambitious and breathtaking goal—gathering up to 25 harpists with 25 harps from across Canada, the United States, and around the world for a monumental concert that will leave you spellbound. Imagine the magic of countless harp strings resonating in perfect harmony, creating a “Harp Symphony” unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. It’s an event that celebrates not only the beauty of the harp but also the power of collaboration, artistry, and the shared love of music.

In an unforgettable performance, the concert will feature a world premiere of “Step Into the Light” by Hungarian-Canadian composer, Gergö Teleki. This deeply moving new composition will be performed by all 25 harpists, filling the venue with lush, radiant harmonies and evoking a sense of hope and transcendence. Teleki will make a special appearance to tell his story as a newcomer to Canada, as well as to conduct this extraordinary ensemble. It will be a performance of a musical journey of light and luminosity — a testament to the power of collaboration and the timeless beauty of the harp.

Adding further excitement, the program will include vibrant and soulful South American music by celebrated Cuban harpist Alfredo Roland Ortiz. Ortiz’s works, known for their rhythmic energy and passionate melodies, will transport the audience to the heart of Latin American musical traditions, showcasing the harp in a new and exciting light.

This historic concert promises to be a visual and auditory spectacle, as a “Harp Symphony” create an unforgettable wall of sound, filling the air with cascading glissandi, intricate textures, and harmonies that will leave you breathless. Whether you’re a lifelong harp enthusiast or a newcomer to the instrument, this event offers a rare opportunity to hear the harp in its fullest, most powerful form.

Join us for a truly unforgettable afternoon of an unprecedented “Harp Symphony”, a truly rare and awe-inspiring event, as these harpists come together to celebrate the rich global tradition of the harp and create a moment in history that will resonate for years to come. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this extraordinary event!
