Hauser’s Cinema takes over the top spot on the Classical Chartz this week, with Yunchan Lim’s Tchaikovsky: Seasons dropping to No. 2. Joyce DiDonato’s recording of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas holds its own at No. 3, same as last week.

The newcomer to the Classical Chartz Top Ten makes its debut at No. 5: the soundtrack from Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale by composer John Lunn. The album consists of original works, as well as those adapted from the series.

Scottish composer John Lunn studied music at Glasgow University, where he focused on 12-tone techniques. Lunn has included composers such as John Cage, Milton Babbit, and György Ligeti among his major influences.

In addition to Downton Abbey, Lunn has worked on several TV series on BBC Scotland, and composed several operas, including works that were commissioned for the Glyndebourne Festival and the English National Opera. He’s also written orchestral and instrumental works, notably a violin concerto that premiered at Queen Elizabeth Hall with the London Sinfonietta and soloist Clio Gould.

The award-winning composer has previously won two Primetime Emmys for his work on the British period series that examines the lives and mores of an upper class family as well as the servants who tend to their household. In the Grand Finale series, the family history reaches the perilous 1930s.

The 21 tracks include pieces like A night in Piccadilly / I’ll See You Again, Ascot Races 1930, the Stately Homes of England, and The Crown is passed.
