Aga Khan Museum: Rhythms of Canada 2025
Monday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 1, family activities starting at 1 p.m. till late evening
Aga Khan Museum, 77 Wynford Dr., open to the public
This first week of July is a great transition week for the city, where we go from the end of the regular season, to special summer programming and festivals till the opening of the 25/26 season in the fall. Thankfully, there are many diverse music-related events, and celebrating Canada Day weekend with wide diversity, the Aga Khan Museum once again opens its doors to the community, hosting two full days of music, workshops, and family activities. This beautiful space — easily one of the most beautiful buildings in Toronto — will host various music and dance groups, including: Toronto Klezmer Society, Compañia Carmen Romero Flamenco, Eagleheart Singers, Achanté, Natasha Noorani, Luis Anselmi, Solara the Band, Amadou Keinou Drumming, Persian Alchemy, Whispr, Gye Nyame, Tapestry Jam, JDL Performing Arts Filipino Cultural Team, and Narcy. It is nearly impossible for a single person to be familiar with all performers listed, and with additional workshops (some require a nominal fee), the celebration will have something for everyone — familiar, and/or new. Come and fill your heart and ears with new experiences, and truly enjoy the diversity that is unique to Toronto. Info here.
University of Toronto Canada Day Carillon Recital
Tuesday, July 01, 2 p.m.
Soldiers’ Tower War Memorial, 7 Hart House Circle, free
The summer carillon concerts continue at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus. Carillonneur, Naoko Tsujita, will fill the sky from the tower on this Tuesday — with 51 bells. There will be a screen to show the magic of the carillon playing in the seating area. Bring your picnics and let the gentle bells resonate into the summer afternoon. Register for guaranteed seating on the lawn; info here.
Small World Music: Sarāb: Live in Toronto
Thursday, July 3, 8 p.m.
Lula Lounge, 1585 Dundas St. W., $42
One of the hottest fusion groups from Paris, Sarāb, takes over Lula Lounge on Thursday. Drawing from rich Arabic heritage, with verses by the Syrian poet, Maram al Masri, these five members: Climène Zarkan, Robinson Khoury, Baptiste Ferrandis, Timothé Robert and Paul Berne, create great music, exploring love, culture, and exile. Sarāb has been busy performing in major jazz powerhouses across the world, including Ronnie Scott’s in London, and a recent performance at the Jazz à Vienne festival. This is a great way to experience this lovely group during their Canada tour. Info here.
Harbourfront Centre: Take me to the Dance?
Friday, July 06, 4 p.m.
Toronto Music Garden, free
Familiar faces in Toronto, violinist Yolanda Bruno and accordionist Michael Bridge, bring a whiff of Buenos Aires and Montmartre, Paris, to the city to gently start the summer weekend. Come and join in the warm afternoon sky filled with lovely melodies and small chatters scattered across the beautiful Toronto Music Garden. Info here.
