The final round of the Neue Stimmen 2013 voice competition will be streamed live from Germany starting at 1 p.m. (Eastern) from the Stadthalle Gütersloh. There aren’t any Canadians on the list, but the quality of the finalists is good.

The high-definition stream, available for free if you sign up with medici.tv, is one of many rainy-day distractions on that website. (You can find out more about the competition here.)
Two other vocal treats to consider:
- If you want to wallow in deep, 18th century sacred Italian musical drama, there is an amazing programme from the Ambronay Festival by Christophe Rousset and his historically-informed Talens Lyriques that begins with Giovanni Battista’s Pergolesi’s indescribably beautiful setting of the Stabat Mater (a poetic mediation of on Mary witnessing her son’s death on the cross). You’ll find this on medici.tv, as well — here.
- Closer to home is the free, on-demand stream from Soundstreams’ wonderful season-opening choral concert led by Tönu Kaljuste from Oct. 1 at Koerner Hall. You’ll find it here — or here (you can forward to the 6-minute mark to start):
