Baritone Philippe Sly, with luck destined to be the Next Great Canadian Baritone, will give us some up-close-and-personal time at the Toronto Summer Music Festival on Tuesday.

Here he is with another great young Montrealer, pianist and conductor Jordan de Souza (who was assistant conductor for Dialogues des carmélites at the COC this spring), in a video they made to thank Jacqueline Desmarais, a very generous patron of the arts in Quebec.

The video setup, by Mathieu Sly, may not be entirely right for this song of Gustav Mahler’s, which is all about letting go of the world, but it’s a great little showcase for two notable talents.
