According to La Presse music critic Claude Gingras, who has been following the local rumour mill, Montreal Symphony Orchestra music director Kent Nagano will not be renewing his contract with the organization when it expires in 2016.

He joined the Toronto Star in 1988, was the classical music critic from 2005 to 2012, and continues as a freelance critic for the paper. He is the co-author of Roy Thomson Hall: A Portrait, a book written with Toronto Star Colleague, William Littler.

According to Gingras, Zarin Mehta, who was for many years the orchestra’s general manager, has been hired to help find Nagano’s replacement.
The native Californian has been music director of the Montreal Symphony since 2006.
