A pregnant Measha Brueggergosman cancels 2012 engagements (updated)

By John Terauds on February 1, 2012

UPDATE — Feb. 2 — Measha Brueggergosman’s management sent out a note saying that the singer is not pregnant.

A Spanish news release has announced that Measha Brueggergosman is cancelling her performances in 2012 on the advice of her doctors, because she is pregnant.

Brueggergosman spent 10 days at a yoga meditation centre in Merritt, B.C. on a retreat. She was not supposed to speak for the whole time. The retreat ended on Sunday, and she hasn’t mentioned anything about being pregnant in public.

UPDATE:

Brueggergosman’s new website still shows her performing in a Cincinnati Opera production of Porgy and Bess that opens on June 28. Her schedule also a BBC Proms concert on Aug. 1, and concerts in Germany in September.

Brueggergosman is appearing at the Seahorse Tavern in Halifax for three nights starting Feb. 6, for a programme titled, “I’ve Got a Crush on You.” Tickets are a pricy (for Halifax) $55.

The local press release said that the evening features, “an eclectic mix of some of the singer’s favorite songs including gospel hymns, Spanish canciones, Acadian folksongs and selections from the Canadian Songbook.”

Brueggergosman’s band is led by pianist Aaron Davis, and includes Robert Piltch (guitar), Marty Melanson (bass), John Johnson (woodwinds) and Dave Burton (drums).

She is also booked to do the programme for two nights at The Cedar Tree Café in her old hometown of Fredericton on Feb. 10 & 11.  She sang a set at jazz mecca, the Rex Hotel, in Toronto before she left for the West Coast.

Brueggergosman is also one of the celebrity judges on Canada’s Got Talent, which kicks off in March.

I tweeted Brueggergosman for a clarification shortly after she finished a photo shoot for Opera News this morning, but have not heard anything back.
