PREVIEW | The Toronto Children’s Choir Performs Internationally Inspired Program Before Heading Out On Tour

The senior choir of the Toronto Children’s Chorus, the TCC Chamber Choir, will be presenting the final concert of its season on June 21. The program is titled Can You Feel It?, and while it ends the season, it kicks off a tour for the choir.

Elements of the program will travel west with the Chamber Choir on tour to Vancouver, and Powell River, BC, where they’ll be representing Canada as the invited guest choir at the International Choral Ḵathaumixw Festival.

The TCC Chamber choir consists of singers aged 12 to 18, led by Artistic Director Zimfira Poloz, with the artistic team of Associate Artistic Director Charissa Bagan, Main Choir Assistant Conductor Michael Denomme, Collaborative Pianinst Dakota Scott-Digout, Collaborative Pianist, and Jamie Drake, Percussion.

The concert program for June 21 features contemporary and art music from Canada, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Malaysia, Slovenia, Syria, USA, Norway, Estonia, and Venezuela, including newly commissioned works and others arranged for treble choir. The Choir will be singing in nine different languages, plus American Sign Language.

Tour Details

International Choral q̓at̓ᶿaymɩxʷ (Kathaumixw) was founded in 1984 as a way to celebrate choral singing as it is practiced around the world. More than 1,200 singers from across the globe get together to share music and cultures.

Many works have been commissioned for the festival, which also features Artists in Residence, international soloists, orchestral accompaniment, and an international jury.
