Ottawa Chamberfest routinely attracts classical and other music lovers from across the province and beyond. For one evening, Chamberfest’s Artistic Director Carissa Klopoushak and a few musical friends will be making the trip west to Toronto for a concert at Hugh’s Room Live.
Klopoushak will be joined by the Gryphon Trio and Toronto born violinist Emily Kruspe, the NAC Orchestra’s Principal Second Violin, for a concert performance in support of the organization on March 16.
The Musicians
Carissa Klopoushak is a versatile musician, performing on the violin and viola as a chamber musician, soloist, orchestral player, and as a curator. She is a member of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Ironwood Quartet, and serves as Artistic Director of Ottawa Chamberfest. Carissa holds a doctorate in violin performance from McGill University, and is a two-time laureate of the Canada Council for the Arts Musical Instrument Bank Competition.
Formed almost three decades ago, the three-time JUNO-winning Gryphon Trio is made up of violinist Annalee Patipatanakoon, cellist Roman Borys, and pianist Jamie Parker. They have commissioned more than 85 works, and have established a reputation as one of the world’s preeminent piano trios. They have recorded more than 22 albums, with a repertoire that covers both traditional and contemporary repertoire, and often collaborate with artists in projects that cross multiple genres.
Toronto-born violinist Emily Kruspe has performed extensively throughout North America and Europe, including touring as a member of the Rolston String Quartet from 2018 to 2020. As a student, Emily was a winner of the Glenn Gould School’s Concerto Competition and the University of Toronto Concerto Competition. She was also a recipient of the Orford String Quartet Scholarship. Emily performs regularly with the ARC Ensemble of Toronto’s Royal Conservatory, and is featured on their album Chamber Works by Alberto Hemsi. Emily has performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, National Ballet Orchestra of Canada, and the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra. She was awarded a violin from the Canada Council for the Arts Musical Instrument Bank.
