The Amici Chamber Ensemble in Toronto has released a video of a performance of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, and it is too good not to share.
Amici’s powerful musical tribute to singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, who left us in 2016, shows just how well the song works in the classical tradition. The end of the last verse is particularly special. Mireille Asselin’s voice curls up like smoke above her shoulder — and it is powerful stuff.
The song was arranged by Toronto-based pianist and composer Serouj Kradjian, and tempered against this brilliant performance by soprano Mireille Asselin and the Amici Chamber Ensemble.
