The Grammy Award-nominated conductor Noel Edison has been fired over allegations made during an investigation, which included multiple accounts of sexual misconduct involving Edison towards members of the Elora Singers, as well as others.

In an email to choir members late Friday afternoon, Charlotte Logan on behalf of the Board of Directors wrote: “While the specifics surrounding this situation and the individuals involved cannot be disclosed for privacy reasons, this action underscores our mandate to provide a safe workplace environment for you, the Singers, as well as for all of our employees, contractors and volunteers.”

Logan went on to underline the standards outlines in their Code of Conduct, where “Everyone has the right to be treated fairly and respectfully, free from any form of harassment or other demeaning behaviour.”

The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir’s Executive Director Cynthia Hawkins responded with a subsequent email to TMC choir members, stating they are aware of Elora’s decision to terminate Edison, and eluded that they will also be making an announcement on Edison’s tenure with the choir as soon as they conclude their own independent review of the investigator’s report. This will likely occur during the next board meeting an undisclosed date.
