The Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) will open the 2024-25 season with an Open House & Free Community Concert at Roy Thomson Hall on September 28, 2024. There will be a range of performances and hands-on activities to enjoy for anyone from dedicated orchestral music lovers to newcomers to the genre.
That includes Latin American and Chinese dance, chamber music by members of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (TSYO), and a music playground. The day closes with a free concert performed by an orchestra of just under 100 TSO musicians to celebrate the city’s diversity, while offers teasers for the upcoming season.

The Details
Open House in the Lobby (10 am to 1:30 p.m.)
Activities for all ages begin in the lobby at 10:00 a.m., and continue until 1:30 p.m. No tickets or reservations are required for this portion of the day’s events; the Roy Thomson Hall doors will be open for anyone who wishes to join in.
Activities includes:
- A series of live musical performances by TSO musicians and special guest artists;
- A variety of activity stations throughout the lobby where visitors can try new instruments, play music together, and even compose their own music and hear it performed.
Free Community Concert (2 p.m.)
TSO Music Director Gustavo Gimeno and Barrett Principal Education Conductor & Community Ambassador Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser will lead the orchestra through a 60 minute performance. The program will feature a variety of works and genres, including beloved pieces like the overture to Mozart’s The Magic Flute and “The Imperial March” from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, along with new works such as Jessie Montgomery’s Starburst.

TSO’s Open House is part of Ontario Culture Days, a three-week-long multidisciplinary arts initiative that will attract nearly one million Ontarians across more than 1,000 communities this year.
