Robert and Ellen Eisenberg, the couple who founded Sistema Toronto, have added another financial gift to the organization to establish funding that will allow students to attend an overnight music camp. The funds will send Sistema Toronto students to the National Music Camp, where they can make friends while they’re delving into learning and playing music.
“We’re so proud of the progress our students have made throughout the 2023/24 academic year,
and the opportunity to attend NMC only supports more of that growth” says Shawn Earle, CEO
of Sistema Toronto in a statement. “The excellent teaching staff and facilities at NMC provide the safety, support, and community that our students need in order to return to Sistema after the summer
months refreshed, rehearsed, and excited to dive back into ensemble music-making.”
With a goal of sending 50 kids to camp this summer, Sistema Toronto is looking for donations to raise the rest of the capital needed.
National Music Camp
National Music Camp was founded in 1965, and has run continuously since that time. It provides a fun and safe atmosphere for kids to explore music and the great outdoors on the banks of Lake Couchiching, just a 90 minute drive north of Toronto.
Set on 120 acres, the facilities are top notch, and include:
- 10 rehearsal halls;
- 25 ensemble rehearsal spaces;
- A state of the art concert hall.
Along with the musical facilities, campers will be able to swim, enjoy an inflatable water park, water skiing, canoeing, a climbing wall, and more.
Fully staffed, including medical staff on site, and nutritious food services, the Camp is designed to give kids a safe and fun environment for their musical studies.
Sistema Toronto
The goal of Sistema Toronto, a registered charity, is to offer musical education and other intellectual opportunities to kids in the city’s underserved communities that is free of charge, and barrier-free. Music can change lives — that’s the philosophy behind the international organization.
Students participate in group lessons for 10 hours each week, and develop a skill set that goes beyond knowing major and minor scales. They learn group work, problem solving, discipline and much more.
