The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) has announced the nominations for the 44th Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, now known as the Dora Mavor Moore Awards presented by the Romano D’Andrea Foundation. The 2024 Doras include 228 nominations for 197 eligible productions.
It’s the first year for the Awards since the withdrawal of Mirvish Productions from TAPA earlier in 2024.
The Opera Division has 13 registrations, the smallest category among a total of seven. The Ceremony and Award Presentation takes place June 24 at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre, hosted by Ryan G. Hinds. A total of 43 award categories are represented.

The Cunning Little Vixen, Canadian Opera Company presents English National Opera production

- Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble to The Ensemble of: Canadian Opera Company Chorus and Canadian Children’s Opera Company.
Pomegranate, Canadian Opera Company and Vancouver Opera
Two nominations:
- Outstanding Performance by an Individual to Teiya Kasahara 笠原貞野,
- Outstanding New Musical/New Opera (SHARED BY MUSICAL AND OPERA DIVS) to Kye Marshall (Composer) and Amanda Hale (Librettist).
Tosca, Canadian Opera Company
One nomination:
- Outstanding Performance by an Individual to Roland Wood
Other Categories
- Sizwe Banzi is Dead (Soulpepper Theatre Company) leads the General Theatre Division with seven nominations (out of 38 registered productions), and The Master Plan (Crow’s Theatre) follows with 6 nods.
- Bremen Town (Bremen Town Collective) and Tyson’s Song (Pleiades Theatre) co-lead the Independent Theatre Division (45 registered productions) with six nominations each.
- Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 (Crow’s Theatre & The Musical Stage Company) has the most nominations this year with 10 taps in the Musical Theatre Division (from a total of 15 registered productions), followed by De Profundis: Oscar Wilde in Jail (Soulpepper Theatre) and Kelly v. Kelly (The Musical Stage Company with Canadian Stage) with six nods each.
- In the Dance Division, from a total of 49 registered productions, Cymatix (Citadel Spring Mix – Programme 1), Deciphers (Harbourfront Centre & DanceWorks), NOMADA (Canadian Stage & DanceWorks) and Young, Gifted & Jazz by Holla Jazz (danceimmersion in association with Canadian Stage) are tied at three nominations each.
- Truth (Young People’s Theatre), leads the Theatre For Young Audiences Division with six nods (of 16 registered productions), followed by Les Zinspiré.e.s : Onze calme et on continue (Théâtre français de Toronto), Storybook Search and Sweeter with five nominations each.
- Gregory Prest has 4 individual nominations, while Lorenzo Savoini has 3.
The Doras are Canada’s largest and oldest awards program, and recognizes excellence in professional theatre, dance, and opera in Toronto.
Naturally, there is an after party immediately after the awards ceremony, held in the cascading lobbies of the theatre.
