Tafelmusik has confirmed that Elisa Citterio has left her position as Music Director and will not be returning for the 2022-23 season.

Citterio initially filled the role in 2017 after an extensive search to replace Tafelmusik’s founding Music Director Jeanne Lamon. Moving to Toronto from her native Italy, Citterio worked not only in Tafelmusik, but also maintained a busy schedule as a chamber musician.

Over her five-year tenure, Citterio appointed new artistic directors, explored repertoire from the 17th through 19th centuries, commissioned new works, and encouraged international collaborations. She was also pivotal in creating their latest recording, Vivaldi con amore, and headlined tours to European and Australia.

The orchestra has appointed an Artistic Committee to oversee 2022/23 Season programming that will be announced later this week.

When asked for the reason for the departure, Tafelmusik’s executive director Carol Kehoe said they would not be sharing any further details.

The Board is reconvening and will begin the search process for a new Music Director.
