David Cronenberg is one of the great filmmakers of our time. He’s also a proud Torontonian.
The Toronto Film Critics Association has awarded him this year’s Company 3 Clyde Gilmour Award.
The prize includes $50,000 in services to a filmmaker of their choosing. Cronenberg will announce his designate in the days to come.
A well-deserved honour
David Cronenberg first gained attention for “body horror” films such as Dead Ringers and The Fly. His themes broadened in later films, such as A History of Violence, but their audacity remained. Cronenberg returns to horror this year with his 22nd film, Crimes of the Future, also starring Viggo Mortensen.
Two more honours
- Toronto Film Critics Association has also awarded the Stella Artois Jay Scott Prize for an emerging artist to Bretten Hannam.
- The Emerging Critic award goes to lawyer-turned-movie-reviewer Rachel Ho.
The Toronto Film Critics Association is still holding out on announcing the big Best Canadian Film Award, which includes a $100,000, prize. The winner will be announced at the 25th annual TFCA Awards, a gala dinner held at The Omni King Edward Hotel Toronto on Monday, March 7, 2022 and hosted by ET Canada’s Sangita Patel.
