They’re Bach. (Sorry – couldn’t resist)
The Toronto Bach Festival will be returning to in-person concerts this May with four concerts including leading performers from Canada’s baroque scene, in addition to international star John Butt.
What’s new this year?
- The festival opens with the Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 and Orchestral Suite No. 3, with the famous “Air on the G String” movement
- Closes with Bach’s iconic Easter Oratorio, as well as the Ascension Oratorio with choir and orchestra
- The debut of renowned international harpsichordist John Butt, one of the foremost Bach interpreters of our time. Butt will conduct the Festival closing performance of Easter Oratorio, and also give a special Noon-Hour Organ Recital at the beautiful venue of St. Andrew’s Church in downtown Toronto
- Vocal soloists include Ellen McAteer, Daniel Taylor, Charles Daniels, and Jonathon Adams
- All six of Bach’s virtuosic Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin will be performed
- The majority of concerts are in the east end of Toronto at Eastminster United Church
Been a while
Since its first season in 2016, the festival gradually grew in popularity with early music lovers in the city. That was until two years of pandemic cancellations meant they had to press pause for a while. It’s so lovely to see them Bach! (OMG! We did it again… sorry)
