It’s only been a few months since the RCM announced that the Royal Conservatory School would be renamed the Oscar Peterson School of Music.
Today, RCM has announced that Oakville-based conductor Colin Clarke has been appointed the first Artistic Director of the Oscar Peterson Program at the Oscar Peterson School of Music.
Clarke will provide artistic direction to the new program that aims to provide comprehensive musical training, tuition-free, for young people in underserved communities.
“I am so excited about joining the Oscar Peterson School and developing the new Oscar Peterson Program,” said Clarke in a statement. “I’ve dedicated my career to connecting with communities through music and music education, and I cannot express enough my delight in having the opportunity to be able to continue this work with The Royal Conservatory.”
Is it a good fit?
As founder and Artistic Director of the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra, Clarke is a well-known ambassador for music in Ontario.
He currently serves as artistic director and conductor of the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra. Before that, he led the National Youth Band of Canada. As a popular guest conductor, he has also led events with several orchestras and choirs, including the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, the Canadian Brass, and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.
When does the Oscar Peterson Program launch?
RCM will kick off the Oscar Peterson Program in the fall of 2022.
