The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir has appointed Guelph-based musician Irene Gregorio as its new collaborative pianist.
Gregorio will work closely with Artistic Director Jean-Sébastien Vallée and Associate Conductor Simon Rivard to prepare the Choir for concerts. She will play during rehearsals and auditions, as well as perform in some concerts.
“I am truly honoured to join the artistic team of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and esteemed conductors, Jean-Sébastien Valléee and Simon Rivard,” said Gregorio in a statement. “Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our long tacet has given us time to reflect and shift our priorities. Coming together again to make music takes on new meaning and a re-energized vision, and I look forward to delving into the exciting programming that is planned for this 21-22 season!”
Gregorio will begin rehearsals on September 13 in preparation the season beginning on November 2. TMC has yet to announce full season details, but we anticipate an announcement sometime this September.
Background
Gregorio recently returned home from the US to Canada, where she currently serves as the Director of Music Ministry at Dublin St. United Church, and Sessional Instructor of Piano at the University of Guelph. She has served as pianist for the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, and the University of Southern California Chamber Singers, among others.
