THE SCOOP | Toronto’s Yike (Tony) Yang Reaches Second Round At Leeds International Piano Competition

Toronto-based Canadian pianist Yike (Tony) Yang (22-years-old) has reached the second round of the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition.

The only Canadian in the competition, Yang will be competing in the second round from September 8–10. Semi-finals begin on September 12–14, with finals rounds between September 17-18.

Hometown Favourite

At 15, Yang became the youngest Chopin prize winner in history at the prestigious International Chopin Piano Competition. At his last major competition, he placed a respectable 15th at the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

Yang is currently studying at Harvard University and the New England Conservatory of Music under Alexander Korsantia. In Toronto, he studied at the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists at The Royal Conservatory of Music.
