Announced today, Canadian Mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo has signed an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon (DG).
The news comes a week after the 26-year-old Italian-Canadian made her Covent Garden debut as Sesto in a new production of Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito.
Star On The Rise
D’Angelo made history by winning all four top prizes at the Operalia competition in 2018. That same year she made her Metropolitan Opera debut. A star on the rise, the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble alumni was a 2020 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award winner.
“[Emily] has set the opera world alight at an age when many artists are only just starting their careers and has shown her virtuosity and versatility in so many genres,” said Clemens Trautmann, DG President.
New Album Details
DG will release D’Angelo’s debuted recording titled energeia. The album — scheduled for release on October 8, 2021 — includes Hildegard von Bingen, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Missy Mazzoli, and Sarah Kirkland Snider.
“In the spirit of artistic adventure and creativity, the DG team supported my idea of exploring the ancient concept of enargeia — which permeates all the music on this album — and together we’ve created a cohesive listening experience from these extraordinary works,” said D’Angelo in a statement to Gramophone.
