Don’t let the description “conversation series” fool you — this isn’t just any online chat.
The Royal Conservatory of Music has announced the launch of Music of My Life – A Conversation With… some major talent behind it.
Launching April 22, 2021, at 3 p.m. ET, the new series will start with Grammy and Emmy award winner Eugene Levy, C.M., star of the Emmy Award-winning Schitt’s Creek, dishing about the music that moves him. Viewers will hear Levy recalling his early music experiences as a high school saxophone player, the inspiration for the film A Mighty Wind, and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with piano duo Anagnoson & Kinton. Other guests include:
- Daniel Barenboim, pianist and conductor (April 29)
- Steven Page, founding member of the Barenaked Ladies (May 6)
- Cynthia Dale, actor and musical theatre star (May 13)
- Paul Shaffer, C.M., David Letterman’s former musical director (May 20)
The series will be hosted by hosted in-house by RCM’s Peter Simon and Mervon Mehta. Each episode contains performances of music featured in each episode from Koerner Hall.
Viewers can catch the episodes on RCM’s new online platform, RoyalConservatory.Live.
A new platform, you say?
While most arts presenters have been flocking to noisy channels like Facebook and YouTube for online distribution, RCM is getting more serious about it. RoyalConservatory.Live will serve as a new digital hub for events from Koerner Hall, with content added every Thursday.
While the selection is a little thin right now, they will be adding events as the platform continues to develop, including archival concerts from past seasons featuring Barbara Hannigan, Tanya Tagaq and the Kronos Quartet, Stewart Copeland with Jon Kimura Parker and many more.
