After six months of making do with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s On Demand service, the TSO has announced they will be returning to Roy Thomson Hall for a new livestream series starting March 31.
Beginning with an all-Mozart program, the TSO will perform up to twice a month through June 2021. Concerts will be available for seven days following the livestreams.
“The energy, excitement, and inspirational impact of live, in-person concerts is something we all miss very much,” said TSO’s Music Director, Gustavo Gimeno. “With these live-stream concerts at Roy Thomson Hall, we hope to revive some of those feelings as we anticipate having in-person concerts in the fall.”
The first program will be led by TSO’s RBC Resident Conductor Simon Rivard, leading the overture to Mozart’s comic opera La finta giardiniera, and Mozart’s iconic Symphony No. 40. TSO Associate Concertmaster Zeyu Victor Li will also make his concerto début performing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3.
To allow for the flexibility required amid the ever-changing provincial health regulations, further concerts in the series will be announced closer to the dates.
While nothing compares to in-person concerts, livestream concerts are welcome news.
