The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall has named Jesse Kumagai to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer, effective February 26, 2020.
After a successful international search, Kumagai will replace Interim President & CEO, Thomas C. MacMillan, who stepped in after the sudden passing of former President & CEO Deane Cameron, C.M. in May, 2019.
“Jesse’s authentic passion, knowledge, and connections in the broader music community are outstanding, while his vision and leadership will position us for growth and success when we reopen Massey Hall and for the years ahead in both Massey and Roy Thomson halls,” said Eileen Costello, Board Chair, in a press release statement.
With the current seven year-long Massey Hall Revitalization underway, the corporation was left scrambling to find the leadership required to see the project through. Beyond Massey hall, the corporation also runs Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall, which is home to the Toronto International Film Festival to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO).
“Jesse Kumagai has been a steadfast advocate for the musical arts in Toronto for many years, and has been one of the TSO’s closest and most valued partners,” said Matthew Loden, CEO of the TSO. “He has a collaborative and generous approach to his work, and we are delighted to be able to continue working with such a strong leader.”
