The Amadeus Choir of Greater Toronto has appointed Kathleen Allan to the position of Artistic Director and Conductor, effective July 1, 2019.

As a conductor, composer, and soprano, Allan holds numerous positions with groups including Winnipeg’s Canzona, the Symphony Orchestra at the Vancouver Academy of Music, and the Vancouver Bach Choir.

“I am honoured to accept this role, and I look forward to furthering the exceptional tradition of music-making for which the Amadeus Choir is known,” said Allan in a press release statement.

She will be replacing Conductor Lydia Adams, who announced she would be stepping down after 35 years with the Amadeus Choir last May.

“Kathleen is a superb musician who will continue to bring the Amadeus Choir forward with excellence and imaginative programming,” Adams said. “This appointment is exciting for the Choir, and I wish both Kathleen and the Amadeus community every success in the future.”

Currently based in Vancouver, Allan is a specialist in medieval repertoire and interested in the intersections found between music genres. She holds music degrees from the University of British Columbia and Yale University.
