THE SCOOP | Elora Festival Singers Appoints Mark Vuorinen As Artistic Director

Mark Vuorinen
Elora Festival Singers opt to extend their commitment to Ontario-based conductor Mark Vuorinen, replacing disgraced former Artistic Director Noel Edison.

This weekend, the Elora Festival Singers have confirmed they have elected to extend their commitment to Ontario-based conductor Mark Vuorinen as Artistic Director, effective immediately.

He replaces disgraced former Artistic Director Noel Edison who was terminated last March following an investigation into agitations of sexual misconduct.

Vuorinen was first named as Interim Artistic Director on March 7 after the board was sent scrambling to find a placement in time for their upcoming summer programming which begins on July 13, 2018.

“I am delighted to be working with the renowned Elora Singers, says Vuorinen. The singers are an extremely versatile ensemble, switching between difficult contemporary music to Renaissance polyphony and baroque oratorio with ease. I am honoured and privileged to lead one of this country’s finest choral ensembles and look forward to getting started with them at this summer’s Elora Festival”.

“In its 39th year, the Elora Festival has a rich tradition of attracting world-class artists and delivering extraordinary musical performances in a beautiful setting,” says Chris Sharpe, General Manager. “We are excited to welcome Mark to the podium”.

Vuorinen also holds appointments as Artistic Director of the Grand Philharmonic Choir and Assistant Professor of Music at Conrad Grebel University College, University of Waterloo, and is President-elect of Choirs Ontario.
