Montreal police have found the body of Eleanor Stubley, located Sunday night in Montreal’s Sud-Ouest neighbourhood. Foul play is not suspected in her death.
Stubley suffered from multiple sclerosis and relied on a wheelchair, forearm crutches, and her specially-adapted transport van to get around. She had been on sabbatical from her duties since July 1 at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University, where she served as associate dean of Graduate Studies and associated professor of music history.
Outside of the university, Stubley was also a renowned conductor who had worked with the Massey Singers, Bach Festival Orchestra and Canadian Opera Company members, and also served as music director of various choirs covering classical to contemporary repertoire. She has many books and articles to her credit on music history and performance theory.
