THE SCOOP | The Four Seasons Centre Goes Digital With State Of The Art Media Wall

The Canadian Opera Company are set to unveil a new digital interactive multi-media wall this fall at The Four Seasons Centre For the Performing Arts. The permanent installation will be available to the public starting this Thursday, Oct. 6,  during the COC 2016–17 season opening concert of Bellini’s Norma.

Until now, the use of innovative technology has largely been in the hands of tech-savvy concert goers who use their smartphones to share their concert experiences on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using their own smartphones. The COC are hoping to bridge the gap by allowing patrons to physically interact and engage directly with the COC on site during performances using the new digital media wall.

Located within the glass-enclosed Isadore and Rosalie Sharp City Room of the opera house, the 98” digital wall will include webcams to capture patron photos and a touch screen interface with access season programming, video trailers, social media feeds, and custom built trivia games. The units will also allow patrons to access social media comments and posts mentioning the COC during the shows.

“Just like the art form itself, this new medium will allow audiences to be immersed in the experience and express themselves in real time. It’s an exciting way to connect and be connected,” says Barry Avrich, Partner, BT/A Advertising.

The COC’s digital wall was designed in collaboration with BT/A Advertising, and Cineplex Digital Media and funded in part by the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, which seeks to help provide support to upgrading existing, under-utilized cultural spaces.
