(via) Renowned soprano Lore Lixenberg was recorded as she sang Mozart’s ‘Come scoglio,’ from the opera ‘Cosi Fan Tutte’ with a fake “translation” projected behind her, and the results are hilarious.
The video above, you’ll hear the soprano sing one of the most technically challenging arias in the soprano repertoire. While she’s singing, conductor and comedian Rainer Hersch conducts Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, London below a projected “misheard lyrics” translation of the Italian text.
For some more context behind the concert, it was presented musician/comedian Rainer Hersch. Here’s what he had to say:
“My vision is to this bring this double act [music and humour] to the concert platform, Hersch tells Sinfini Music. “Since 2009 I have performed an April Fools concert to the Royal Festival Hall in London (this year it’s 21 April, but that’s not the joke). To my amazement, major musicians – Alfred Brendel, Nicola Benedetti and Dame Evelyn Glennie – have been keen to participate. Are they offended? Quite the contrary – they love the opportunity to show that they have a sense of humour. They are aided and abetted by comedians, who know their way around a comedy stage but who may not be so well-versed in the classics. The fun is watching the two come together and create something truly unique, inclusive and, yes, genuinely funny.”
