For those following the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, it has been a knuckle-bitter for all contestants, particularly the Canadians
In an announcement made on October 12, the second round of competition yielded 20 winners from the pool of 43, two of which were Canadians Charles Richard-Hamelin (26), and Tony Yike Yang (16). Toronto-based pianist Annie Zhou (17) did not advance from the second round.
Stage III of competition runs Oct. 14 through 16. Each contestant will perform a one-hour recital of works by Chopin.
Each performance will be webcast on the Chopin Institute’s official YouTube page.
The International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition is held every five years and is acknowledged as one of the most highly-regarded piano competitions in the world.
The First prize is valued at over $44,000 CAN.
The 17-member jury includes Martha Argerich, Yundi Li, Philippe Entremont, Dang Thai Son and Garrick Ohlsson.
