The fortepiano is the earliest version of the modern piano and carries a gentle, subtle tone. It was used by composers like Beethoven, Brahms and Schumann to compose all of their works. During the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the fortepiano was gradually pushed out after the development of the more robust modern day piano.

Watch renowned concert pianist Pedja Muzijevic debut the Banff Centre’s fully restored fortepiano as built by legendary modern builder R.J. Regier.
