COFFEE BREAK | Watch the Hip Hop and Classical Collide with Drake‘s “Know Yourself”

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra won some fans last night at the 2015 Polaris Music Awards Gala. Performing Drake’s hometown anthem “Know Yourself,” members of the TSO unveiled an impressive arrangement by Christopher Mayo for hundreds of attendees at The Carlu in Toronto. The small string section included a short solo by TSO Concertmaster Jonathan Crow backed by drums and a shimmering vibraphone.

The video, which will likely go viral, was released late last night via CBC music.

In early September, the TSO partnered with the Polaris Music Prize to perform at the Gala Awards event, and announced they will collaborate with the winner for upcoming TSO concert at Roy Thomson Hall in 2016. The winner, announced last night, is Buffy Sainte-Marie for her 2016 album, “Power in the Blood.”

To compare the TSO’s version with the original, you can hear it here it below:

Don’t be surprised if you see some new faces at a TSO concert in the future.
