Calling all composers. The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir (TMC) has launched a new emerging composer competition for choral works.
The commission is made available by a donation by Debbie Fleming, a 40 year veteran of the choir who retired from the Choir in June 2015.
According to the press release, composers are asked to submit an “unpublished work for SATB or double choir, either a cappella or accompanied by piano or organ that is not more than 5 minutes in length.”
A jury led by Artistic Director Noel Edison will select the winner after the submission deadline of November 13, 2015. The winner will be awarded the new Debbie Fleming Prize for Choral Composition, and be given a $1000 prize.
The winning piece will be performed during TMC’s Choral Conductors’ Symposium in January 2016.
The competition joins other TMC outreach projects which includes an apprentice program for singers between the age of 17 and 22, its annual Choral Conductors’ Symposium and their Associate Conductor position.
