Getting a chance to play your hero’s instrument is a dream come true for many musicians. As part of the “What it feels like to be Canadian” series at McLean’s Magazine, Jan Lisiecki plays Bach on Glenn Gould’s prized Steinway. Known as CD 318, it was the perfect instrument for Gould, who sought something that sounded, “a little like an emasculated harpsichord.” Gould’s favourite Steinway is on display at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre as part of an exhibit paying tribute to the legendary Canadian pianist.
