UPDATE | The Valentina Lisitsa Rumour Mill Sees No End In Sight (exclusive)

arton173921
Pianist Valentina Lisitsa, will only play one show in Toronto (Oakville) on May 8th, 2015.

We’ve been hearing from a number of sources that Valentina Lisitsa’s upcoming May 8-9 performances in Oakville have been cancelled due to low ticket-sales. We can confirm that this is not true.

The organisers have decided to merge the two scheduled shows into a single event on Friday, May 8th. The reason given was because of logistical problems involving Lisitsa’s travel schedule following the event on May 9th.

The concert organiser Les Holdway, commented, “The 2 fundraisers agreed to combine efforts on the Friday night as there were going to be logistical issues getting Valentina to the next concert overseas. Obviously we have a very short time span to work within.”

In regards to ticket sales, Holdway stated they are doing “fine.”

As an acknowledgment for those who will have to switch tickets, the concert will be extending by ½ hour.

Mr. Holdway also said they will be recording the Friday concert with sound and video. “It will just be recorded for now  – but not streamed. The lighting set up for that would have been too time consuming. We will edit it and then decide how we will use it.”

They have also confirmed Steinway Toronto have donated a grand piano for use during the event.

The program for the event will be:

Beethoven Sonata Op 31#2 “Tempest”
Chopin 7 Etudes

Intermission

Liszt Sonata B minor
Bach-Busoni Chaconne

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Noah’s Ark Wetlands Foundation and the Canadian Journalists Defence Fund.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Friday May 8th. The Meeting House, 2700 Bristol Cir, Oakville, ON.
