2 Monday

Continuing with Music Mondays, a lunch-time concert series at the Church of the Holy Trinity, the Minden Duo will be performing a concert for the adventurous. The set, from the founder of the legendary Robert Minden Ensemble, will include magical sounds from invented instruments and children’s toys.  More about the Minden Duo here.

3 Tuesday

Soundstreams concludes its season with Airline Icarus, an opera by Toronto’s Brian Current. The opera is based on the Greek myth of Icarus, who ignored his father’s good advice, and learned hubris the hard way. The libretto, by playwright Anton Piatigorsky, imparts a mythic dimension to a flight bound for Cleveland and invites us into the minds of passengers and crew, revealing their relationships and their inmost thoughts. 4 Wednesday

The COC Free Concerts Series wraps up this week in a Brass Blowout with works by Britten, Gabrieli, Hindemith, Dukas and the COC’s own Scott Irvine. Performers include: Andre Dubelsten, Michael Fedyshyn, Luise Heyerhoff and Robert Weymouth on trumpets; Janet Anderson, Bardhyl Gjevori Joan Watson and Scott Wevers on horns; Charles Benaroya, Ian Cowie and Herbert Poole on trombones, and Scott Irvine on tuba. 5 Thursday

soprano, Sondra Radvanovsky

Tonight will feature the great American, and now Toronto-based soprano Sondra Radvanovsky performing with the TSO in a program of  “Songs for Soprano.” Her performance of Elisabetta in Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux with the COC shows she is at the top of her game, and this is a great opportunity to hear her with the TSO. The concert will include Mozart’s Overture to Don Giovanni, Strauss’ Four Last Songs, and Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé Suites Nos. 1 & 2. There will be a pre-concert chat at 7:15 in the lobby. Tonight, Organix Concerts presents the internationally acclaimed organist James David Christie perform works by Piroye, Jullien, Langlais, Christie, Alain and others. Mr. Christie holds positions as Chair and Professor of Organ at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, Oberlin, OH, and previously held positions at Boston Conservatory, Harvard University, M.I.T. and Boston University. Peter Stein

The Celebrated German opera and theatre director Peter Stein will be in Toronto this week with COC General Director Alexander Neef to present “Celebrating Peter Stein” — a five-day celebration of the director’s four-decade long career with Berlin’s Schaubühne —a company he brought to the forefront of German theatre. The event will include an on stage discussion with Peter Stein and Alexander Neef, and also feature various film highlights personally selected by Neef from Pelléas et Mélisande, Moses und Aron, and Die Nase.
