The Cecilia String Quartet return to their stomping grounds tonight with Schoenberg’s vibrant String Quartet No. 2, and American composer, Ed Harsh’s Down from Heaven, featuring guest soprano Stacie Dunlop. Last year former Musical Toronto’s John Terauds named David Jalbert’s Goldberg Variations the Canadian disc of the year, and this is your chance to hear him perform them live. Not to be missed. (some) info here.

- York University Chamber Choir, Lisette Canton, director; Mélisande Sinsoulier, piano at Tribute Communities Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. $5-15
Tonight features some rare choral music performed by The York University Chamber Choir. They will be performing Frank Martin’s highly personal Messe pour double chœur. This austere version of the Catholic Mass was originally written in 1922, and was kept under wraps for almost 50 years. Come find out why. Very little details here.

This early evening concert titled “A Composers Canvas: Music from Canada’s West Coast,” will include works by Jocelyn Morlock, Nikolai Korndorf and Gregory Lee Newsome. The evening concludes with a wine tasting at 6:30. Details here.

- FAWN Opera & New Music + Michael Vincent at the Music Gallery 8 p.m. $8-12
Musical Toronto’s very own Michael Vincent, will be the featured composer at the Music Gallery’s Emergents III series. He will be presenting a number of works inspired by archival recordings from the Smithsonian institute, a premiere for solo violin based on French gypsy music (Semper Ardens), as well as some extended piano pieces incorporating live looping and magnetic string resonators.
Fawn will be opening the evening with number of excerpts from past opera productions, as well as a new work by Toronto composer, Cecilia Livingston. Chelsea Shanoff curates the event. Info here.

Come hear Haydn’s dramatic musical depiction of the creation of the world presented by the NYCO Symphony Orchestra. The concert features an impressive chorus of over a hundred voices and a 60-piece orchestra joined by soprano Ania Hejnar, tenor Charles Sy and bass-baritone Michael Nyby. For those who’s German is a bit rusty, there will be English surtitles. More information here.

- Accordionist, Martynas Levickis, at Lithuania House. 3 p.m. $15-20
If you don’t know him, Martynas Levickis is a very talented Lithuanian classical accordionist with a great deal of charisma and skill. He was the 2010 winner of Lithuania’s Got Talent, and dare I say it, can make the accordion look very appealing! Details here.
