Celebration of life and music of Larry Lake set for Nov. 26 at Arts & Letters Club

Thanks to the Canadian Electronic Ensemble, of which he was a member, Larry Lake will be present at his own memorial event at the Arts & Letters Club on Nov. 26.

Lake, a broadcaster, new music champion and composer, died two months ago after a lengthy fight with cancer. He is best known to listeners of CBC Radio 2 as the longtime host of Two New Hours, a programme devoted to new music cancelled among the corporation’s ongoing budget cuts and restructurings in 2007.

The memorial evening will include reminiscences and a lot of music. There will be Chopin and Brahms played by old colleagues, but the majority of the music will be Lake’s own compositions. Included on the programme are Improvs 2 & 4 from the Canadian Electronic Ensemble’s Live in Cabbagetown, for which Lake played trumpet.

The celebration is co-hosted by the Arts & Letters Club and the Canadian Music Centre. There’s no mention of a need to reserve a spot in advance. The event begins at 7:30 p.m.
