Toronto pianist and composer Adam Sherkin is giving a concert at the Glenn Gould Studio on Apr. 4,featuring a wide range of pieces, including one of his own, for solo piano assembled around a watery theme. There are also visual and spoken-word elements to the performance.

I thought the best way to introduce this concert would be through Sherkin’s own words, as well as hearing his own fingers on the piano keys.

The full details of the concert are available here.

Here is the second Musical Toronto podcast. It’s 22 minutes long and includes three pieces of music — including a full performance by Sherkin of one of my favourite compositions by John Adams, China Gates:

Please let me know what you think about this format, which I think of as something like a radio broadcast. Does it convey more than a traditional written interview? Is there anything that could be added — or deleted?
