Giddens\u2019s lifelong mission is to lift up people whose contributions to American musical history have previously been erased, and to work toward a more accurate understanding of the country\u2019s musical origins.\u00a0<em>Pitchfork\u00a0<\/em>has said of her work, \u201cfew artists are so fearless and so ravenous in their exploration,\u201d and<em>\u00a0Smithsonian Magazine<\/em>\u00a0calls her \u201can electrifying artist who brings alive the memories of forgotten predecessors, white and black.\u201d On May 8, 2023, Giddens was awarded the 2023 Pulitzer Prize in Music for the opera\u00a0<em>Omar<\/em>, which she co-wrote with Michael Abels<em>\u00a0(Get Out, Nope)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Critically acclaimed Nashville-based singer\/songwriter Adia Victoria opens the evening. Born and raised in South Carolina, Victoria is known for her \u201cgothic blues\u201d musical style that tells stories of her life as a Southerner.
