A doubly dramatic opening! Barbara Hannigan conducts Beethoven\u2019s overture to Goethe\u2019s play, Haydn\u2019s inventive orchestral showpiece, and, with John Storg\u00e5rds as soloist, a Dutilleux nocturne. Then, Storg\u00e5rds conducts the symphony that marked the turning point of Sibelius\u2019s composing style, as well as Brett Dean\u2019s re-examination of Shakespeare\u2019s ill-fated heroine, sung by Hannigan.
