ECSTATIC VOICES envisions a new context for the eight-voice choir. Featuring bold, sensual works for voices \u2014 Cassandra Miller\u2019s The City, Full of People, Caroline Shaw\u2019s Pulitzer Prize winning Partita for 8 Voices, Luciano Berio\u2019s Cries of London, and Thomas Tallis’ Lamentations of Jeremiah \u2014 this performance subverts expectation for the choir; bending, twisting, and mutating historical forms into new shapes and gestures.<\/p>\n
\u200bPunctuating the performance is Claude Vivier’s Cinq Chansons pour Percussion, featuring virtuso percussionist Aiyun Huang. In dialogue with the vocal works, these wordless songs evoke an otherworldly ecstasy.\u200b<\/p>\n
