The prize, sponsored by the Hessian lottery company, comes with 15,000 euros in cash.<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s Rheingau Musik Festival, which kicked off on June 24, is ongoing until September 2, and includes some 164 concerts spread over 29 locations. Tony was first invited to the Rheingau Festival in 2022, where he performed a concert that roused a wave of interest. That led to the second invitation in 2023. He will cap the prize win with a recital at the F\u00fcrst von Metternich Hall, performing a programme of Brahms, Wagner, Beethoven, Busoni and Schumann.<\/p>\n<p>The LOTTO prize has been awarded at the Festival since 2009, and recognizes a young artist at the dawn of their careers who shows exceptional promise and potential.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MB7GOgBqGhc?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<h2>Tony Siqi Yun<\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s no doubt that Toronto-born Tony Yun fits that criteria. In making the award, the jury mentioned Yun\u2019s technical brilliance combined with naturalness, and his youthful energy.<\/p>\n<p>Yun first catapulted to international attention in 2019, when he took home the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2019\/05\/21\/the-scoop-canadian-pianist-takes-first-prize-at-inaugural-china-international-music-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First Prize and Gold Medal<\/a> at the inaugural China International Music Competition in Beijing at the age of 18. He\u2019d been studying piano for several years by that point.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He started his music education in 2011 at the affiliated middle school of the Central Music Conservatory in Beijing;<\/li>\n<li>Continued his studies at Dulwich College Beijing;<\/li>\n<li>In between competitions and performances, he\u2019s currently studying with Yoheved Kaplinsky and Matti Raekallio at the Juilliard School in New York, where he\u2019s the recipient of the Jerome L. Tony first met Montr\u00e9al conductor Yannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin in Beijing at the fateful competition, where he won first prize. Yun performed with the conductor leading the Philadelphia Orchestra in the final round.<\/p>\n<p>N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin reunited with the young pianist in February 2023 for Yun&#8217;s subscription debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra, where he performed Schumann\u2019s Piano Concerto.<\/p>\n<p>Tony has also performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Orchestre de chambre de Paris, the China Philharmonic Orchestra and the TSO, and he made his Canadian debut in a performance of Clara Schumann with Montr\u00e9al&#8217;s Orchestre M\u00e9tropolitain.
