The album was recorded at la Maison symphonique de Montr\u00e9al, Canada, in August 2022.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an auspicious beginning to Payare\u2019s tenure as conductor.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_95112\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-95112\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-95112\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/Rafael-Payare-\u00a9-Antoine-Saito.jpg\" alt=\"Rafael Payare (Photo: Antoine Saito)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-95112\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maestro Rafael Payare (Photo: Antoine Saito)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Quotes<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Rafael Payare<\/strong>, Music Director of the Orchestre symphonique de Montr\u00e9al, released a statement about the album, and a work that is close to his heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGustav Mahler\u2019s Fifth Symphony is a deeply personal work, written at the prime of the composer\u2019s life. The extremes in the music \u2014 from the darkness of the funeral march to the ecstatic joy of the finale \u2014 very much reflect the highs and lows of his own life at the time, which range from surviving a near-death experience to marrying his beloved Alma and becoming director of the Vienna Court Orchestra.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Fifth is the last of Mahler\u2019s symphonies to have an almost na\u00efve quality; his subsequent symphonic works would take a much darker, more existential turn. But in the Fifth, we have a composer who, while a fully mature artist, is still looking forward to what the future might bring. This is music brimming with exuberant energy, hope and a deep love of life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could not be happier to be immersed in Mahler\u2019s score with the Orchestre symphonique de Montr\u00e9al. Their technical finesse and their tonal colour, range and depth bring to life the vast musical canvas that the composer created. For me personally, it is also a beautiful way to begin a long and rewarding relationship with this wonderful orchestra. It is an immense pleasure and privilege to welcome this storied ensemble to the Pentatone family, all the more so with their new music director, Rafael Payare, at the helm \u2014 a conductor who truly embodies the present and future of the art form.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The OSM already boasts an impressive discography \u2014 <em>Mahler No. 5<\/em> will be the organization\u2019s 132nd recording.
