They include Toronto native Karoline Podolak, along with sopranos Erika Baikoff and Amber R. Monroe, and countertenors Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen and tenor Ricardo Garcia. Each of the five top prize winners receives $12,000 USD.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2022\/11\/11\/interview-front-centre-meet-coc-ensemble-studio-competition-winner-karoline-podolak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Karoline Podolak<\/a> was also the winner of the COC Ensemble Studio Competition in 2022.<\/p>\n<h3>George London and his legacy<\/h3>\n<p>Born in Montreal in 1920, George London would move to Los Angeles with his family as a teenager. He became a baritone with an international career in the world of opera, landing eventually at the Vienna State Opera in 1949, and then at the Metropolitan Opera in London, where he performed for many years.<\/p>\n<p>The George and Nora London Foundation for Singers was created to help future generations, and was founded in 1971. Nora London, George\u2019s widow, has President of the George London Foundation for Singers, which was renamed the George and Nora London Foundation for Singers after her death in 2022.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m6LSmMtc6vQ?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<h3>The competition<\/h3>\n<p>A total of twelve finalists were selected to perform at the competition, which took place in-person at the Gilder Lehrman Hall at The Morgan Library &amp; Museum in New York City, and was also livestreamed.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s judges were soprano Harolyn Blackwell, mezzo-soprano Susanne Mentzer, mezzo-soprano Susan Quittmeyer, bass James Morris, and former Metropolitan Opera administrator Lenore Rosenberg.<\/p>\n<p>The finalists performed a piece of their choice.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Erika Baikoff<\/strong>, soprano (29, Brooklyn, NY), sang \u201cA vos jeux, mes amis\u201d from Thomas\u2019s <em>Hamlet<\/em>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amber R.
