The fast-rising Toronto mezzo-soprano (and Deutsche Grammophon artist) offers an offbeat recital including Hildegard, Schoenberg, Mazzoli, Copland and Clarke, among others. Sophia Mu\u00f1oz is the pianist. Info here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Toronto Symphony Orchestra\/Louis Lortie<\/h3>\n

Wednesday Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. (repeats Friday Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday Feb. 25 at 8 p.m.) Roy Thomson Hall. $69+<\/p>\n

Sir Andrew Davis leads the North American premiere of his orchestration of Alban Berg\u2019s Piano Sonata Op. 1<\/em>. Louis Lortie, another old friend of the TSO, plays Mozart\u2019s Piano Concerto No. 23 K. 488<\/em>. After intermission we hear Rachmaninoff\u2019s familiar Symphonic Dances<\/em>. Women\u2019s Musical Club of Toronto\/Fj\u00f3la Evans<\/h3>\n

Thursday Feb. 23 at 1:30 p.m. Walter Hall. $45<\/p>\n

This unusual WMCT program focuses on original music and arrangements by the Icelandic-Canadian composer Fj\u00f3la Evans. Also heard are Grieg\u2019s String Quartet No. 1<\/em> and Gy\u00f6rgy Ligeti\u2019s Sonata for Solo Cello<\/em>. Among the performers is an American ensemble, the Aizuri Quartet. Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra\/Simon Rivard<\/h3>\n

Saturday Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. George Weston Recital Hall. $31 ($31 under 36)<\/p>\n

Simon Rivard leads the 22-and-under ensemble through Messiaen\u2019s Les Offrandes oubli\u00e9es<\/em>, Falla\u2019s El amor brujo us<\/em> Sibelius\u2019s Symphony No. 1<\/em>. Guest conductor Trevor Wilson adds Beethoven\u2019s Coriolan Overture<\/em>. Info here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Greater Toronto Philharmonic\/London Calling<\/h3>\n

Sunday Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. Calvin Presbyterian Church (26 Delisle Ave.). $27+<\/p>\n

The community orchestra under David Fallis performs a program of English hits, including Elgar\u2019s Serenade for Strings<\/em>, Walton\u2019s music from Henry V<\/em> and Vaughan Williams\u2019s English Folk Song Suite<\/em>. Info here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Opus Chamber Music\/Opus 2<\/h3>\n

Sunday Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. Grace Church-on-the-Hill (300 Lonsdale Rd.). $40 ($20 students and seniors)<\/p>\n

The fledgling chamber society under the direction of pianist Kevin Ahfat brings together American (Sirena Huang, violin, and Brannon Cho, cello) and Torontonian (Erika Raum, violin and Barry Shiffman, viola) luminaries to play Poulenc\u2019s Cello Sonata<\/em>, Ysa\u00ffe\u2019s Solo Violin Sonata No. 5<\/em>, Ravel\u2019s Violin Sonata No. 2<\/em> and Dvo\u0159\u00e1k\u2019s Piano Quintet Op. 81<\/em>.
