UPDATE FROM THE ELORA SINGERS<\/del><\/h1>\n

The Elora Singers<\/a>, led by Artistic Director Mark Vuorinen, have been nominated for a JUNO award for their recording Radiant Dawn: Music for Advent and Christmas<\/em>. They are nominated alongside an esteemed list of notable orchestras and ensembles in the category \u201cClassical Album of the Year: Large Ensemble\u201d. The JUNO Awards<\/a> will be announced on Monday, March 13 in Edmonton.<\/p>\n

The Singers recorded the album during the pandemic as soon as they were able to safely do so. \u201cIt was really exciting for us to have the experience of singing together more normally again after so long,\u201d Vuorinen said. \u201cThat in itself was thrilling, after having had to wear masks and sing apart from each other during the first year of the pandemic. We are so honoured to be nominated for a JUNO for this project, and we are delighted to be included in the company of so many other wonderful ensembles in this category.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now in its 43rd<\/sup> season, The Elora Singers are recognized as one of Canada\u2019s finest professional chamber choirs and are the ensemble-in-residence every summer at the Elora Festival. Choral music lovers may experience the masterful sound of The Elora Singers at their upcoming concerts in March and April in Kitchener and Guelph, as well as at this summer\u2019s Elora Festival in July.<\/p>\n

Baroque Meditations<\/em> will be performed at St Matthew\u2019s Lutheran Church in Kitchener on Sunday, March 5 at 4:00 pm. The program begins with the haunting and seldom-heard Stabat Mater<\/em> by the early baroque Italian composer Agostino Steffani and concludes with the young Handel\u2019s Dixit Dominus<\/em>, written while he lived briefly in Rome at the beginning of the 18th<\/sup> Century.<\/p>\n

Arvo P\u00e4rt\u2019s Passio <\/em>will be performed at St. George\u2019s Anglican Church in Guelph on Sunday, April 2 at 4:00 pm. This stunning work is a setting of the Passion text according to St. John, filled with theological symbolism and celestial beauty. The concert begins with Sir James MacMillan\u2019s stunning cappella setting of Psalm 51, Miserere<\/em>.<\/p>\n
