{"id":88213,"date":"2022-12-09T09:11:55","date_gmt":"2022-12-09T14:11:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/?p=88213"},"modified":"2022-12-09T09:11:55","modified_gmt":"2022-12-09T14:11:55","slug":"scoop-toronto-symphony-orchestra-hits-road-february-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/2022\/12\/09\/scoop-toronto-symphony-orchestra-hits-road-february-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"THE SCOOP | The Toronto Symphony Orchestra Hits The Road In February 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_88215\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88215\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-88215\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ludwig-van.com\/toronto\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/12\/NEWS-TSO-on-tour-2023.jpg\" alt=\"The Toronto Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Gustavo Gimeno (Photo: Jag Gundu)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"628\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88215\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Toronto Symphony Orchestra with Maestro Gustavo Gimeno (Photo: Jag Gundu)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Toronto Symphony Orchestra will be on tour in February 2023, for the first time under the baton of Gustavo Gimeno.<\/p>\n<p>On February 11, the TSO will visit the Ottawa\u2019s National Arts Centre, then New York&#8217;s fabled Carnegie Hall on February 13, and finally Chicago Symphony Centre on Valentine\u2019s Day, February 14.<\/p>\n<p>It will be the first time the TSO has ever played at the Symphony Centre, and while the orchestra has performed at the Carnegie Hall in the past (most recently in 2011), it will be Maestro Gimeno&#8217;s d\u00e9but on the storied New York stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs an orchestra of international stature, the Toronto Symphony is looking forward to resuming touring activities, and once again carrying the torch for Canadian music abroad,\u201d said <strong>Mark Williams<\/strong>, the TSO\u2019s Chief Executive Officer in a statement. \u201cThis celebratory visit to two of the most culturally rich cities in the US, in addition to Canada\u2019s capital, will be an exciting international d\u00e9but, sharing the deep partnership between Music Director Gustavo Gimeno and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the course of 100 years, the Orchestra has come to epitomize all that is best about Toronto: It is a cosmopolitan enterprise, welcoming diverse ideas and influences from many perspectives,\u201d he continues. \u201cThe Toronto Symphony Orchestra embraces innovation while respecting tradition. And it fosters creativity, both musically and through engagement with our community. In a nod to the dates around Valentine&#8217;s Day, it will include a suite of Prokofiev\u2019s ballet <em>Romeo and Juliet<\/em> that Gimeno has compiled himself.<\/p>\n<p>The full program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Samy Moussa: <em>Symphony No. 2<\/em> (TSO Commission \u2014 US Premi\u00e8re)<\/li>\n<li>Lalo: <em>Symphonie espagnole for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 21<\/em> (Mar\u00eda Due\u00f1as, violin)<\/li>\n<li>Prokofiev: <em>Suite from Romeo and Juliet, Op. 64<\/em> (Compiled by Gustavo Gimeno)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cFor many reasons, I have been anticipating my very first tour as TSO Music Director,\u201d <strong>Gustavo Gimeno<\/strong> said in a release. \u201cNot only will it mark my Carnegie Hall d\u00e9but, but it will also provide us with the opportunity to bring inspiring Canadian music across the border. I\u2019m also delighted to feature music reminiscent of \u200b my home country, performed by my fellow Spaniard, the extraordinary violinist Mar\u00eda Due\u00f1as. Above all, I can\u2019t wait to see the bonds of this Orchestra grow even stronger. Touring enhances the personal and professional connections between players, enabling the entire ensemble to flourish creatively.
