Maestro Gustavo Gimeno, who began his tenure at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra under difficult circumstances during the pandemic, has renewed his contract to the 2029-30 season.<\/p>\n

According to a report in The Globe and Mail<\/a><\/em>, Gimeno is looking forward to continuing his relationship with the TSO and Toronto audiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is my extreme pleasure to continue to lead this wonderfully refined orchestra,\u201d Gimeno said in a statement quoted by The Globe and Mail<\/em>. \u201cThe special bond that the musicians and I share, and the incredible audiences here in Toronto, have only deepened my love of this great city. I am honoured to be able to guide this remarkable ensemble into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gimeno first led the TSO as a guest conductor in 2018. He was quickly put on the short list after the retirement of Peter Oundjian.<\/a><\/p>\n

Gimeno kept the TSO as active as possible during the pandemic, with virtual performances and smaller-scale concerts. Since the return of live concerts in November 2021, he took part in the TSO\u2019s 100th anniversary<\/a> celebrations, and recently hosted a gala with Yo-Yo Ma.<\/p>\n

The TSO isn\u2019t the only gig for Valencia-born Gimeno.<\/p>\n
